The Traditional and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) has beenwidely used for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a broad range of diseases. Inthe Philippines the TCAM is still utilized even though the national health care system ispredominantly allopathic. The search for cure and treatment from herbal medicines hasbeen centuries old in the country and one of the primary options for Filipinos in ruralregions as well as for the urban poor. Based on literature at least 13,000 medicinal plantscan be found in the Philippine rainforests, but only a few plants have been fully studiedand accepted to date as adjunct to the conventional therapy for the management ofdifferent diseases.
