Meijo UniversityGraduate School of Environmental and Human Sciences

To Promote Areas of Interdisciplinary Studies, Integrating Nature, the Environment, Humankind, and Life

Being part of a multi-faculty university enabled this graduate school to be established as an independent school not based on a single undergraduate education program. Its objective is to develop fields of interdisciplinary study by undertaking integrative education and research based on a philosophy of the "harmonious coexistence of nature and humankind." The curriculum offers two comprehensive programs of study--Natural Environmental Sciences and Human Sciences. To provide a foundation for, and introduction to, these two programs, students take the Environmental and Human Sciences course. At the same time, in terms of research, the school strives to actively stimulate research through cooperation with off-campus research organizations.
Further, to create an academic discipline based on the "harmonious coexistence of nature and humankind," faculty and students participate together in education and research that integrate the humanities and science. Twice a year, there is a chance for the fruits of this cooperation to be shared when faculty members give special lectures and graduate students present their research.
