レスブリッジ・カナダ研修 (5)_ホストファミリーとの生活

　私は、ホームステイ期間中毎日外に出て活動することを意識していました。休日に特に用事がなくても近くのスーパーやショッピングモールに出かけて、店員さんと会話をしたり、カナダの街並みを楽しんだりしていました。
レスブリッジについて知るうちに、日本と比べて驚いたことが二つあります。一つ目は野生動物の多さです。レスブリッジはとても自然豊かなので様々な野生動物がいました。特に私は滞在中、鹿をよく見かけました。初めて鹿を見たのは通学バスを待っていた時です。車の通りが激しい交差点だったのですが、鹿は信号が青になるまで渡るのを待っていて、鹿の賢さにとても驚いたのを今でも覚えています。私は直接見ることができなかったのですが、レスブリッジではほかにもウサギを見かけることがあるそうです。二つ目に驚いたことは、レスブリッジの人々がとてもフレンドリーだったことです。すれ違う人全員が、目が合うと微笑んでくれました。また、レスブリッジではバスから降りるときにほとんどの人が、運転手に向かって「Thank you」と言って降りていました。人々がとても暖かい地域だと強く感じました。はじめは長いと思っていた留学生活ですが、優しいホストファミリーや先生、レスブリッジの人々のおかげでとても充実した２４日間を過ごすことができました。（３年生・Yさん）

During my homestay, I tried to go outside and do activities every day. Even when I didn’t have special plans on weekends, I went to nearby supermarkets or shopping malls. I talked with shop staff and enjoyed the city of Lethbridge. While learning about Lethbridge, I found two things that surprised me compared to Japan. The first was the number of wild animals. Lethbridge has a lot of nature, so I could see many wild animals. Especially, I often saw deer during my stay. I still remember the first time I saw a deer. I was waiting for the school bus at a busy intersection. The deer waited for the traffic light to turn green before crossing the road. I was very surprised at how smart it was. I didn’t see them myself, but I heard that people can also see rabbits in Lethbridge. The second thing that surprised me was how friendly people in Lethbridge. Everyone smiled at me when we made eye contact. Also, when people got off the bus, most of them said “Thank you” to the bus driver. I really felt it was a very warm community. At first, I thought 24 days of studying abroad would feel long. But thanks to my kind host family, teachers, and the people of Lethbridge, I had a very wonderful and meaningful time.
