Through Meijo University’s 2025 Overseas Training Program (Office of International Affairs), we conducted “Joint Research on Carbon Neutrality and Resource Circulation of Construction Materials” at CNU’s ※1 Department of Architectural Engineering (Building Materials and Construction Engineering Laboratory)※2, one of our partner universities. The following activities were undertaken:
*1 Meijo University and CUN signed an MOU in 2020. *2 https://concrete.cnu.ac.kr/concrete/index.do [Seminar] September 1, 2025
Seminar on Utilization and Development of Environmentally Friendly Construction Materials Based on Japan-Korea Joint Research [Graduate Lecture by Prof. Y. Dosho] September 1, 2025 Graduate lecture by Prof. Y. Dosho: “Environmental Consideration and Resource Circulation of Construction Materials.” [Undergraduate Lecture Attendance (Prof. Gyuyong Kim)] September 2, 2025 Attended Prof. G. Kim’s lecture: “Architectural Construction Engineering.” [Joint Research] September 1–4 and 8, 2025※3 Joint research on carbon neutrality and resource circulation of construction materials
[Other] September 5–6, 2025 Participation in the Daejeon Urban Architecture Culture Festival hosted by Prof. G. Kim, including woodworking experiences. *3 Prof. Y. Dosho returned to Japan on September 3, 2025. This followed the “Special Lecture at CNU, Department of Architectural Engineering”※4 held in December 2024.
*4 Meijo University News, January 14, 2025: https://www.meijo-u.ac.jp/news/detail_30905.html The seminar, titled “Utilization and Development of Environmentally Friendly Construction Materials,” included presentations on environmentally friendly concrete technologies in Japan and Korea. Discussions focused on using concrete waste (a major industrial waste), ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash (industrial byproducts), and plastics waste as resources in environmentally friendly concrete, with emphasis on CO2 emission reduction and concrete performance evaluation. Presentation documents from Meijo University members※5 are available at the link provided below.
*5 Presentation documents: https://researchmap.jp/dosho/others/51219117?lang=en Seminar participants included 3 professors (CNU: Prof. G. Kim and Prof. Jeongsoo Nam; and Meijo University: Prof. Y. Dosho) and 17 graduate students (2 from Meijo University and 15 from CNU※6), totaling 21 attendees. Six individuals delivered presentations: Prof. Y. Dosho and graduate students Ms. W. Iwano and Mr. K. Onoyama from Meijo University, and Dr. Eu Hamin and graduate students Mr. Ji Sungjun and Ms. Youn Hyeyoung from CNU. The seminar confirmed that waste resource circulation and carbon neutrality are recognized as critical challenges indispensable for sustainable development in Japan and Korea.
*6 Including one international student each from Vietnam and Indonesia. Message from Prof. G. Kim (excerpt): Thank you very much for visiting CNU. I believe the exchange between your two outstanding graduate students and our lab members provided a very positive experience for both sides. I hope we can continue to have active exchanges in the future and look forward to our continued cooperation.
